Drinks for Vata

Ojas drink

A delicious revitalizing drink to increase the ‘Ojas’- vital nectar of the body. Best for Vata and Pitta.

Serves 1 person

Ready in 10 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Raw soaked almonds – 5 (OR almond powder 1 tablespoon)
  2. Cashew nuts – 5
  3. Water – ½ cup
  4. Cow milk or almond milk – ½ cup
  5. Dates (without seeds), preferably Medjool dates – 2-3 in number
  6. Organic ghee – 1 tsp 
  7. Grounded cardamom – 1/8 tsp 

8. Dry ginger – 1/8 tsp

9. Cinnamon powder – 1/8 tsp

10. Nutmeg powder – 1/8 tsp

11. Saffron (optional) – 1 pinch

Method of preparation

  • Put the soaked almonds in boiling water for 15 minutes to remove the skin easily.
  • Boil the almond or almond powder, cashews and dates in water (1/2 cup), then add milk and ghee.
  • Reduce the fire by boiling the mixture. Then add cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg powder. Boil for another minute.
  • Now turn off the flame and allow the mixture to cool down for 3 to 5 minutes. Then put this into a blender and blend for 2 minutes.
  • Make sure that the mixture is fine and blended well. Pour into a cup and put a pinch of saffron (optional) and drink warm.

Notes:

  • Soak the almonds in water at least 2 or 3 hours to make them soft and easy to digest.
  • Boil the almonds in water to make the skin easier to peel.
  • Choose the number of dates for the sweet you prefer.
  • People who are allergic to milk, can opt for any alternate milk (almond milk is a good option).
  • If you are Kapha constitution, prepare the drink without any milk and replace with same amount of water. Avoid in Kapha imbalances.

Golden Milk

A turmeric drink act as antimicrobial which boost the immune system.

Serves 2 persons

Ingredients

  1. Cow milk (organic) – 1 cup (250 ml)
  2. Water – 15 ml
  3. Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp
  4. Dry ginger powder – 1/4 tsp
  5. Cinnamon stick – 1 small piece
  6. Brown sugar (optional) – 1 tsp
  7. Cardamom powder – 1 pinch

Method of preparation

  • Boil the milk with water in a sauce pan.
  • When the milk starts to boil add all the ingredients except sugar and stir for 5 minutes in low flame.
  • Turn off the flame and filter it.
  • Add sugar and Cardamom powder. Stir it nicely and have it with a beautiful smile

Notes: Milk is a source of Ojas (Essence of all vital fluids, responsible for health, harmony and spiritual growth) as per Ayurveda. Combination of milk (preferably organic cow’s milk) with turmeric and spices is called golden milk, turmeric gives a golden color to milk. The antimicrobial property of Turmeric makes this mixture to boost the immune system.

An healthy digestive drink which is cooling and appetizing

Serves 1 person

Ready in 5 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Butter milk (made from cow’s milk) – 250 ml    OR   Yogurt- 150 ml + Water- 150 ml & blend well
  2. Salt
  3. Curry leaves- one string
  4. Green chili- one (according to your spice level)
  5. Lemon leaves – 2

Method of preparation

  • Mix buttermilk with water
  • Add salt to taste
  • Crush well the curry leaves, green chili & lemon leaves and add to the buttermilk.
Notes:
  • Storing in mud pot increase the cooling property and drink whenever you need. 
  • Finish the drink by the same day itself. Keeping for long time will ferment the mixture further.
  • You may replace the green chili with fresh ginger paste

Desserts & Snacks for Vata

Ojas Balls

A yummy rejuvenating energy ball. Best for Vata and Pitta.

Serves 2 persons

Ready in 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • Dates (Desiccated ) -10 no’s
  • Hot water (for soaking the dates)
  • Grated coconut – 5 tbsp.
  • Organic Cocoa powder (optional) – 1 tsp
  • Cashew nuts (finely chopped) – 6 no’s
  • White sesame seeds – 1 tbsp.

Method of preparation

  • Soak the dates in hot water for 2 minutes.
  • Blend the dates with coconut and cocoa powder into a mixed form.
  • Add the mix with cashew nuts and roll into small balls.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds.

Notes: You may add other nuts into this mix.

 

Banana Ghee Roast

Banana ghee roast

A healthy yummy simple snack. Best for Vata and Pitta

Serves 2 persons

Ready in 20 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Banana – 1 or 2 (well ripened)
  2. Ghee – 3 tbsp.
  3. Coconut milk – 1 tbsp.
  4. Palm sugar – 1 tsp

Method of preparation

  • Peel the skin of banana and make into thin slices (either long/round)
  • Heat a pan, pour 1&1/2 tbsp. ghee and roast the slices (both sides) until it turn to slight brown color.
  • Allow it to cool down and pour coconut milk and sprinkle the palm sugar. The dish is ready to serve.

Notes:

  • You can roast the slices by 2 or 3 batches 
  • Avoid in Kapha imbalance state

Semolina Laddu

Serves 2 persons

Ready in 20 minutes

Ingredients

  1. Semolina – 1 cup
  2. Ghee – 2 tbsp.
  3. Cashew – 6
  4. Raisin – 6
  5. Palm sugar powder – ½ cup
  6. Milk – as needed

Method of preparation

  • Heat a pan, add 2 tbsp. ghee and roast cashews (until it turn to slight brown color) and add semolina and raisins to roast it (until the semolina feel to touch like sand)
  • Now turn off the fire and add palm sugar and mix well.
  • Allow it to slightly cool down and with the help of milk make laddu balls out of it.

Notes: Roasting should be in  slow fire

Ingredients

  1. Flax seeds – 1 tsp
  2. Chia seeds – 1 tsp
  3. Black sesame seeds – 1tsp
  4. Pumpkin seed – 1 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  6. Hemp seeds – 1 tsp

7. Sunflower seeds -1tsp

8. Poppy seeds -1 tsp

9. Coconut – ½ cup (grated)

10. Palm sugar – ½ cup

11. Whole oats grain – ½ cup

Method of preparation

  • Heat a pan, add all the seeds and oats and dry roast until the raw smell fades ,keep aside.
  • In the same pan sauté coconut for 2 minutes and mix palm sugar into it and stir well.
  • Now add roasted seeds and mix well. The dish is ready.
